Clinical Testing Options

Thoughtful testing when it adds value.

Testing can be valuable when it helps answer a clear clinical question, but it is not always the starting point.

In many cases, a detailed case history, symptom pattern, medical background, lifestyle factors, and current presentation provide the most useful direction. Where appropriate, testing may then be used to add clarity, confirm suspicion, identify contributing factors, or guide treatment more precisely.

My approach is to use testing selectively and thoughtfully rather than routinely.

Results are interpreted in context. A marker on paper is only one part of the picture and meaningful interpretation considers symptoms, history, patterns over time, and the wider clinical presentation.

Testing may be considered for concerns such as:

Persistent bloating, reflux, altered bowel habits, excess gas, or digestive discomfort

Suspected SIBO or post infectious gut changes

Recurrent symptoms despite dietary changes

Fatigue, low energy, poor recovery, or unexplained changes in wellbeing

Nutrient insufficiency concerns such as iron, B12, or vitamin D

Hormonal symptoms where further clarity may be useful

Blood sugar or metabolic concerns

Complex or long standing cases where another layer of information may assist

Available testing pathways may include:

SIBO breath testing

Comprehensive stool testing

Hormone testing where appropriate

Review of existing pathology results

Additional functional testing depending on presentation

SIBO Breath Testing Pathway

May be considered where symptoms such as bloating, excess gas, reflux, altered bowel habits, post meal discomfort, or suspected fermentation patterns raise the question of bacterial overgrowth.

Pathways begin from $585 and include a results review consultation.

Comprehensive Stool Testing Pathway

May be considered in complex digestive presentations, recurrent symptoms, food reactivity concerns, ongoing bowel irregularity, or where a broader picture may help guide treatment.

Pathways begin from $775 and include a results review consultation.

Hormone Testing Pathway

May be considered where further clarity is needed around cycle related symptoms, perimenopause, hormonal shifts, mood changes, sleep disruption, or other presentations where additional insight may be useful.

Pathways begin from $430 and include a results review consultation.

Pathology Testing Through Your GP

In some cases, standard pathology testing may be the most appropriate first step and can often be requested through your GP. This may include areas such as iron studies, B12, vitamin D, thyroid markers, blood sugar, lipids, inflammatory markers, or other routine investigations where relevant.

Where suitable, I can review existing results or help identify which areas may be worth discussing further with your GP as part of your broader care plan.

How to proceed

If you are unsure whether testing is appropriate, this can be discussed during your initial consultation. Where suitable, recommendations can then be made based on your individual case, goals, and budget.
